Trouble Sleeping and a Busy Life

How many of you have trouble sleeping?

Tell me if this scene is familiar. Wake up with an alarm at 6 am, get up, shower, make coffee, have breakfast, get kids ready for school, get out of the house, drop off kids, get to work, work 9 to 5, get home 6 pm, make dinner, bedtime bath and stories, fall asleep at 10 pm (if you don’t have trouble sleeping), repeat the next day.

This does not leave a lot of time to go to the gym, read a book, nor get the myriad of chores done. Being busy working parents we tend to get the excess done on the weekend or we cut down on weekly sleep to get certain things done.

Trouble sleeping seems to go hand in hand with being busy

In any given week do you have trouble sleeping and/or staying asleep? Chronic insomnia is insomnia that has lasted for 3 months. Despite trying to improve sleep habits, insomnia may persist for some people.

We want to live full and healthy lives, but sometimes it is hard to get the proper exercise, nutrition and rest our body needs, while still maintaining both family and professional responsibilities. Don’t lament into a pint of Ben and Jerry’s just yet, maybe your lack of feeling rested is due to a sleep disorder.

Sleep apnea interrupts sleep stages due to the lack of breathing that wakes a patient up enough in order to encourage the body to start breathing again. When this breathing pattern happens throughout the night, a person does not enter the right sleep stages and despite sleeping 8 hours, will feel tired when waking up in the morning.

Life is full of activities that make getting a full night’s sleep difficult. Having a sleep disorder like sleep apnea can cause insomnia, that make’s it even harder. Trying to find the equilibrium between sleep, family, fitness and work, can be a little difficult for a good part of us.
